Elevated Vacuum Suspension System

An Elevated vacuum is a term that describes a type of suspension used in transtibial (below the knee) and transfemoral (above the knee) prosthesis. An electric or mechanical pump is attached to the socket, which provides a continuous monitored suction; pulling the liner as well as the patient's residual limb to the inner walls of the sheath. This vacuum prevents excessive movement in the socket, resulting in unwanted friction and shear forces. Circulation improves thus, providing a healthier residuum. Moreover, a silicone liner with a sleeve suspension is used alongside the pump to complete this elevated vacuum system.
